Don’t let the terrain stop you

Volvo FMX extreme mobility

When mud or sand has swallowed the road, the only way to stay out of trouble is to keep moving. A driven front axle with Automatic Traction Control (ATC) and up to 300 millimetres of ground clearance make sure you can do just that. On Volvo FMX in 4×4, 6×6, 8×6 and 10×6 configuration – this feature automatically engages the front axle at the exact moment you need it – and disengages it when you don’t. There’s a whole range of options for your Volvo FMX to make life easier in rough terrain.

Driven front axle

You can get your Volvo FMX with a driven front axle in a 4×4, 6×6, 8×6 or 10×6 configuration – to make sure challenging terrain doesn’t stop you. The driven front drive axle is positioned to give the truck a better approach angle. It’s designed to be strong and streamlined. The parallel rod behind the axle beam is integrated, making the sturdy axle casing the lowest point of the vehicle and significantly improving ground clearance when fully loaded.

Rear air suspension

Our rear air suspension made for construction trucks gives you up to 300 millimetres of ground clearance. Spring members, air bellows and stabilisers are placed on top of the drive axle. The result? You get the ground clearance of leaf suspension with the comfort and efficiency of air suspension. Optimised rear axle pressure on every axle means better traction. Air suspension also sends less vibration into the truck. The resulting comfort and higher average speed boost your productivity (an increase of 5–10 km/h in our tests). And reduced vibration damage means better uptime.

Ready to Go

When starting uphill, Hill Start Aid can keep the truck still at an angle while the powertrain builds up torque. If you should get stuck, Rock Free is an I-Shift function that lets you rock the truck back and forth to by pumping the accelerator until your truck comes loose.
