Miros and Volvo Trucks Malaysia join forces to enhance road safety initiatives in Malaysia
KAJANG, 7 AUGUST 2023 - The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Volvo Trucks Malaysia are proud to announce the establishment of a Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) to strengthen road safety efforts in the heavy-duty prime movers sector and reduce the number of road crashes in Malaysia. The MOC aims to foster a collaborative and cooperative relationship between the two parties by promoting safe driving practices and implementing impactful road safety programs, especially for heavy vehicles.
Shah Alam, Selangor, 11 July 2023 – Volvo Trucks Malaysia (Volvo Trucks) has officially debuted its fully electric heavy duty prime movers in Malaysia, the first electric heavy duty prime mover to be launched in the Southeast Asia region. Further to the reveal, Volvo Trucks also secured its first adopters, integrated logistics provider, Swift Haulage Berhad. The announcement spotlights the Swedish truck maker’s role in accelerating the industry’s transition to electromobility, in line with the nation’s net zero carbon ambitions.
Last year, the number of heavy electric trucks on the roads in Europe and the United States grew faster than ever before. Volvo Trucks have now sold more than 4 300 electric trucks globally in more than 38 countries. In Europe, Volvo Trucks is the market leader with a 32% share of the market for heavy electric trucks, and in North America, nearly half of all heavy electric trucks registered in 2022 were Volvo trucks.

As the world’s first truck manufacturer to do so, Volvo is now introducing fossil-free steel in its trucks. The steel is produced by the Swedish steel company SSAB and the heavy-duty electric Volvo trucks will be the first to include it.
Volvo Trucks is opening its very first battery assembly plant. Located in Ghent, Belgium, the plant will supply ready-to-install batteries for Volvo Trucks’ full electric heavy-duty trucks.
