Astro Awani extended the invite to Volvo Trucks to participate in the first ever SLIC event held at the Shangri-La Hotel on 7th to 8th August 2018. The event brought together 17 experts from various industries to share the best practices and solutions leveraging on innovation to tackle the challenges of future living in the cities. With innovation as the central thread, the event draws inspiration from the Swedes and the Dutch in show casing how rapid urbanisation can happen at a minimal cost to the environment. The event was officiated by the new Minister of Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and The Environment, Ms Yeo Bee Yin.
Mitch Peden, the new Managing Director for Volvo Malaysia Sdn Bhd gave a very inspiring presentation about the trends in Electromobility, automation and connectivity. The crowd was impressed when he shared Volvo’s smart city transport concepts, which included the demonstration on how the autonomous refuse truck with Renova works. This led to a very active and robust Q&A session and the event further cemented Volvo Trucks as a leading player in innovation and sustainability.
“Safety, Quality and Environmental Care are Volvo Truck’s core values that we practice daily in everything we say and do. In Volvo Trucks, there is always a continuous development of innovation towards a cleaner environment, and safer roads for all. The newly introduced FE and FL electric trucks are part of our solutions to tackle rising fuel cost, pollution and city living,” said Mitch. “In introducing new technology, the industry players alongside the authorities and society need to work closely together. Volvo Malaysia welcomes any collaborations with local authorities and bodies or educational institutions in piloting the deployment of new technologies such as automated trucks or electric trucks,” he further elaborated.
There were over 200 guests attending the two-day event comprising of city planners, urban designers, building architects, students and environmentalists.
